The role of melatonin in the complex treatment of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease with sleep apnea syndrome

The study showed that the inclusion of melatonin in the standard treatment regimen for patients with GERD with concomitant obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is not only clinically justified, it also shortens the onset of clinical remission of both the main and concomitant pathologies, with a high degree of certainty it increases the level of patients’ QOL, especially mental scales health, but also pathogenetically justified, as it has a positive effect on eliminating the imbalance in the melatonin-endothelin system, reducing the aggression of gastric juice and increasing factor protection lining of the esophagus and stomach.
