About journal

Dear colleagues!

“Shidnoevropejskij zurnal vnutrisnoi ta simejnoi medicini” (East European Journal of Internal and Family Medicine) is a scientific and practical journal for distant education, which is intended for specialists in internal medicine and family medicine and is published and distributed for charitable funds. The magazine was founded to improve and optimize training in internal and family medicine and for implementation of continuing medical education. We know that science has no borders, and doctors have to apply achievements of the world’s medical science and study constantly to improve their skills. “Shidnoevropejskij zurnal vnutrisnoi ta simejnoi medicini” combines basic medical problems, as well as contemporary issues of clinical medicine. The journal welcomes well-known scientists and promising young researchers by providing a forum for discussion of issues of a wide circle of scientific and medical interests.

The main advantages of the journal are not only to its high scientific level, but also openness to debate, availability and efficiency of the publication, which is particularly important for actively working authors.

The journal is aimed at the practitioner and his needs. It is also based on clinical evidence, algorithm of diagnostics, treatment and prevention, and contains the maximum amount of useful illustrations. On the journal’s website we posted video lectures and test tasks, which enable a doctor in the on-line to check and improve their knowledge.

What is unique about our journal is practically oriented approach, and the introduction of distance education into the daily activities of a doctor.

At the present stage of reforming the system of medical postgraduate education, the attention is focused on the continuous education system and its integral part – distance training.

The advent of distant education is due to a number of objective reasons. First, there is rapid development of new methods of diagnosis and treatment, as well as the approval of new classifications. At the same time the traditional advanced training courses for doctors such as precertification and thematic improvement, which are held once every 5 years, cannot keep up with scientific and practical achievements.

At the same time, holding of traditional courses is associated with a number of economic problems, such as accommodation in another city, food, transportation. Distant education makes it possible for practicing physicians to communicate remotely with the teachers and settle emerging issues. The method of continuous distant training contributes to the formation of medical thinking; it helps to develop skills for working with scientific literature. Therefore, the introduction of remote methods of education is one of the most important issues of the modern system of postgraduate education. It should be emphasized that unfortunately not all the institutions of practical public health and doctors have high-speed internet so printed materials for distant continuous education, such as teaching aids for distant self-education, collections of tests and electronic aids remain relevant.

Periodical publications should play significant role in the system of distant continuous education. However currently most medical journals primarily focus on publishing dissertations, which limits the use of these materials by practical public health physicians.

On the other hand, the special periodicals for practical physicians usually do not contain scientific information or it is given as a review. The system of a continuous distant education should be a balance between teaching the latest scientific concepts and practical recommendations, algorithms and protocols. Considering this, we call your attention to a new scientific journal of distant education “Shidnoevropejskij zurnal vnutrisnoi ta simejnoi medicini” in which the latest scientific developments and the specific criteria for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases are combined. The presentation of the material is based on the classical principles of higher education while combining the thoroughness of the provided material with its clarity and simplicity for studying. Therefore we prefer to publish review articles on the actual problems of internal and family medicine.

We also consider this journal as the first journal in Ukraine for the distance education, so every article is followed by sets of tests to identify initial and final levels of knowledge on a particular subject. Testing provides the doctors with opportunity not only to learn on their own but also to check their level of knowledge and get a certificate. We will be very grateful for advice and recommendations that you can send to us.

We hope that both doctors and workers of postgraduate education will support this edition. We are grateful to all those who cooperate with our publication, and to all the readers for their interest in the basic problems of contemporary medicine!
