Cardiorenal syndrome: clinical significance, diagnostic criteria, and principles of tratment

Prof. A. Korzh. Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. Department of General Practice — Family Medicine.

Pathology of the heart and kidneys are widespread in the population and often co-exist, increasing the mortality risk of complications, complexity of treatment and its cost. Bilateral relations towards the heart — kidneys, in which the pathophysiological disturbance in one of them can lead to dysfunction of the other, defined the concept of «cardiorenal syndrome». Established that renal failure leads to a more rapid progression of atherosclerotic vascular changes that only traditional risk factors cannot be explained. The most important position in determining the tactics of management of patients with cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease is the recognition of chronic kidney disease as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular pathology and equivalent coronary heart disease for the risk of complications. In clinical practice, renal function should be allocated in the diagnosis of patients with cardiovascular disease with calculation of glomerular filtration rate and albuminuria, which will contribute to making adjustments to the current treatment and improve prognosis.

Key Words: cardiorenal syndrome, coronary heart disease, chronic kidney disease.
