The article discusses the reasons, the main pathogenetic mechanisms and features of iron deficiency anemia course in pregnant women. Diagnostic and differential diagnostic approaches for diagnosis are presented. The necessity for a complex clinical and laboratory examination of patients in this category is emphasized, which is associated with the difficulties of differential diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia and anemia of chronic diseases.The problem of ferrotherapy prescription was discussed considering the ratio of the expected benefits and possible risks for the mother and the fetus.
