The article shows that the personality of Paracelsus is one of the most controversial in the history of medicine, constantly struggling on the one hand between genuinely scientific research, observation and mystical, alchemical experiments, and on the other hand between the high purpose of the doctor and the lowest vices. It is established that in the works of Paracelsus, mystical teachings dominated: about jatro-chemistry with its alchemical conception of human nature; guidance options the evil eye; about the signature – the mysterious signs, left ostensibly by nature on the form of plants; about the astral body and the microcosm; alchemy and astrology; and the methods of treatment were based on purely linguistic means in the form of arkans and sympathetic means. It is shown that Paracelsus was the founder of paramedicine, laying the foundation for the formation in the future of homeopathy, animal magnetism, the doctrine of auras, healers and extrasensory, which contributed to and contribute to the repression of medical science and practice, a truly scientific component in place of mystical and charlatan. It is noted that the passion of Paracelsus with mysticism had an extremely unfavorable effect on his personal life, who was finally mired in drunkenness and depravity.
