How to correctly evaluate the results of diagnostic tests?

The article discusses approaches to the assessment of diagnostic tests to confirm or exclude the disease. The reliability of various diagnostic methods is evaluated in special studies, where the studied method is compared with the reference one. If the results are the same, then these are: truly positive results (there is a disease and the test confirms it) or true negative (there is no disease and the test excludes it). The data presented indicate a low predictive value of a positive result of non-standard tests with a low a priori probability of a detected disease, which is especially common in screening conditions.

Key Words: diagnostic test, predictive value, diagnostic accuracy of the method.
