Medicine in ancient Babylon

Prof. A.A. Oparin. Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. Department of Therapy, Rheumatology and Clinical Pharmacology.

The article shows that the medicine of Babylonia was based on magical and religious beliefs. Medical scientific ideas that had took place in the ancient period of the history of Babylonia, were suppressed by magical and superstitious ideas, which led to the regression of Babylonian medicine. The regression of the development of medical science in Babylonia was in direct and parallel connection with the abnegation from the primary monotheistic notions of the ancient Sumerians, Babylonians, Assyrians. Polytheism and magic were central to the religious views of the Babylonians, which led to a complete regression and degradation of the medical science.

Key Words: medicine, ancient Babylon, prejudice, religion.
