In the article, the authors analyzed the scientific and pedagogical activities of Danylo Ovsiiovych Alpern in the context of the development of Ukrainian medical education. The authors examined the creation of his first Ukrainian-language textbooks on pathological physiology, which contributed to the development of national medical terminology and ensured the introduction of systematized educational material into the educational process. The features of his teaching methods were also reflected, and the significance of scientific results from the period of the Second World War, integrated into the educational practice, were outlined. The authors analyzed the role of the student scientific society in training of the scientific and pedagogical staff and formation of the Kharkiv school of pathophysiologists, which acquired all-Ukrainian significance. The article identified the international dimension of D.O. Alpern’s legacy, confirmed by internships at European universities and translations of his scientific works, as well as the importance of museum of the history of the Department of General and Clinical Pathophysiology named after D.O. Alpern of Kharkiv National Medical University as a factor in preserving the academic tradition.
