Dipeptidylpeptidase-4 inhibitors are a relatively new class of oral hypoglycemic drugs. The inhibition of the destruction of the incretin hormone \u2014 glucagon-like peptide-1 \u2014 has a positive effect on glucose metabolism, which includes both potentiation of glucose-induced increase of insulin level and inhibition of glucagon secretion.
